We are proud to announce that a new local chapter, Nature Coast BCH has been formed to serve the needs of equestrians in Hernando, west Sumter, and northeast Pasco Counties. This geographic area includes the east and west tracts of the Croom forest, Townsen Lake Preserve and Rail to Trails that runs through Hernando and Pasco County.

In these areas, numerous changes that may have an impact on equestrian trails are underway or eminent. At Lake Townsen, a favorite local riding area, a major restoration is in process as a result of its recent designation as a Preserve. In the west Croom tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest, the Brooksville Good Neighbor Trail, a paved bicycle trail is being constructed along Trail 10 through the middle of the forest. Forestry has also proposed a plan to create a new trailhead and primitive camping area exclusively for equestrians just off of Soult Road.

The good working relationships that equestrians previously established with Florida Forest Service, Withlacoochee State Trail, and the Hernando County Parks and Recreation gives us the opportunity to positively affect the outcome of these projects to benefit and minimize the impact to equestrians.
